Emily has worked with learners at all grade levels as a teacher and administrator in the Massachusetts public schools. She is licensed as an academic teacher, ESL, and Special Education Teacher, as well as a Director, Special Education Administrator, and Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent. She brings a strong understanding of state and federal laws protecting students and families to her work, as well as experience working through district protocols and procedures and with the BSEA to resolve cases with an eye always towards serving students. In her most recent role, she worked extensively with families navigating the transition from Special Education to adult services as their complex learners turned 22. Emily is experienced working with the Department of Developmental Services (Autism and Intellectual), Department of Mental Health, and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. Emily has worked collaboratively with families to identify appropriate out of district placements for their students and to plan successful transitions towards the least restrictive setting appropriate for their child’s unique needs and has extensive experience working with programming for students with autism spectrum disorders, medically complex needs, and emotional/mental health disabilities.
Emily has participated in extensive training in mediation and dispute resolution. In her free time, she volunteers as a case reviewer for the Department of Children and Families, ensuring that the most vulnerable children receive the full spectrum of services they require across their communities.
Emily lives in Woburn with her family. With experience raising a child with medically complex needs, Emily understands the unique perspectives and challenges faced by parents as they strive for and advocate for their children’s access to education and their community. Emily is excited to make the transition to family and student centered advocacy and looks forward to supporting families as they navigate the processes of accessing services for their children.
