The recent school closures have left many families in limbo, especially those with children requiring special education services. At @KidCentered, we’re here to guide you through these challenges. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
Understanding Compensatory Services:
During this interruption, you may hear about “compensatory services.” These are designed to address deficits caused by a lack of timely evaluations, direct services, or support for students with disabilities. While these services are not typically offered for short-term closures (like strikes), schools must compensate for missed services.
Collaborate and Document:
Start a document with any concerns and monitor your child closely. If you notice any signs of regression, document them.
Resend emails:
Due to the strikes, teacher and team chair emails were usually turned off during the school closures. Now is a good time to resend emails to teachers and team chairs.
Create Consistency at Home:
A stable routine can help mitigate the effects of this disruption. If necessary, seek additional support for your child’s educational, social-emotional, or medical needs during this time.
Our team of advocates is here to support you. For more information, email angela@kidcentered.net or visit kidcentered.net. Together, we can ensure your child’s needs are met!
