The big changes to the United States Department of Education have raised alarm and uncertainty for many, especially for students with special needs and their parents. These changes are happening swiftly, and it is challenging to understand their scope and impact.
In this webinar, we aim to break down some of these changes, their potential effect on children and the schools serving them and discuss proactive strategies to help keep you informed and assist you in advocating for your children’s rights.
The Big Picture
US DOE oversees many important educational functions such as Title 1 programming, federal loans for higher education, and services and civil rights protections for children with disabilities. The current administration has stated that these components will remain in place. However, with fundamental restructuring of the Department, elimination of staff, and reallocation of personnel and resources into other governmental departments, the integrity of protections of rights of students with disabilities, access to services, and other vital functions such as educational federal loan distribution are in question.
